Panetta Institute Announces Line-up for Leon Panetta 2014 Lectures Series with Discussions Featuring David Axelrod, Erskine Bowles, Andrew Card, Robert Mueller and Other Invited Guests Secretary Panetta to Moderate.
Panetta Institute Chairman and former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has announced the line-up for the Leon Panetta 2014 Lecture Series. This year’s programs will focus on the theme Learning the Lessons of History – Is the Past Prologue to the Future? Secretary Panetta is pleased to announce the following dates and details for the 2014 season. Each of the events will be held at the Monterey Conference Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. The final event of the season, which features four speakers, will be a special two-hour presentation and will conclude at 9:00 p.m.
“In 2014, we remember that 100 years ago, World War I began,” reflected Institute chairman Leon E. Panetta. “Some have said that many of the events of 1914 — the struggle for national identity, the revolutions and uprisings, the attacks on terrorists — resemble what is happening in 2014. In the last 100 years, what have we learned after two World Wars about the struggle between war and peace? How has the role of government changed in dealing with economic and social changes? How do we balance protecting our security and protecting our freedoms? And how have presidents made the important decisions in confronting crisis?”
